Hello.

We are a faculty (I am faculty member) and are planning on installing Aris express in our computer lab for student exercises. What username/password should we use for installation - mine as a faculty member or any other?

Please advise,

Zdenko

Hi Zdenko,

every user of ARIS Express still needs to register his personal copy using his ARIS Community account. Sharing accounts is not allowed by the license.

As a faculty you can use the full ARIS products (see University relations program).

I understand that personal copies need registering (that is what students will do for their personal use), but how could we have installation on our school computers for lab exercises?  Or is this impossible?

I know that we could get full version, but for the scope of the course (very limited hours) the Express version would be sufficient.

Zdenko

Hi Zdenko,

the registration is stored in the user's profile for the machine. Thus, if your users log in with the same account on the machine, they could register just once... which would be a breach of the license agreement, as long as the users do not create their own community account.

Are you using the webstart version or the windows executable setup (hopefully)?

Bye,

Frank

Well, we are using windows setup. So there is no way of installing express on multiple machines with single username/password? Students will have their own accounts - is there a way, that they would enter their own username, when the application is started (each time)?

When I installed it on my pc, I was only asked for username on first startup, and never again...

If this is not possible, which full version would be appropriate for our use, for process drawings, and that it has standalone installation?

Well, as soon as the students have their accounts, I think it would be sufficient. If you install the software, register with account "X", and the students start express afterwards, Express would not ask for an account. In that case, we would trust on your goodwill to force the students to register in ARIS community...

The full version is IMHO the better solution. You just have a server containing all databases, and you can assign access rights to the databases for the studends. Your students would use the ARIS Business Designer and connect to the server/databases using an easy method filter...

Bye,

Frank
