Hello,

just downloaded ARIS Express. First impression: target hidden! An easy to use beginner tool! (even when there are missing some functionalities what you can find in other free of charge tools).

My 1. question: Somewhere I read that it is possible to reuse the ARIS Express models with the professional ARIS tools. But I wasn`t able to convert the .adf files to ARIS Toolset 7.1. What do I have to do, or did I misunderstand this possibility?

My 2. question: If there is a way to convert it to Toolset,  is this way also working bi-directional?

Answer would by nice!

Dirk

Hi,

about your questions:

1.) with the next SR of ARIS Business Architect (comming soon), it will be possible to import ADF files into the Business Server. Your wrote that you are using the ARIS Toolset. Do your refer to the old windows client? This tool is obsolete anyway and will be removed from the market sooner or later (most likely sooner). The windows client is not able to import ADFs.

2.) nope. It will only be an import. In Express, we do not have assignments, object reusage... since it is not using a database

Bye,

Frank

Hello Frank,

I've just installed Express. I'm impressed with the new functionality compared to ARIS 7.02 which we are currently using. :-)

I also found out that the assignments functionality has not been implemented in Express. I understand that this is due to the lack of an database in Express. Is there any outlook that in some way assignments will be implemented in a future release of Express?

Thank you for your help and glad with the good work!

Cheers,

Wei

Hello,

yes, I was refering to the Windows based version (Given that the upgrade to ARIS BA is not free, even when we have a maintenance contract, I am still forced to use the Windows client). But, Ok, if this is not working I am fine with it. I was only wondering if I do something wrong.

But nevertheless thanks a lot for your answer.

Dirk

Yes, from now on you can import an ARIS Express model into your professional installation of ARIS using ARIS Business Architect.

Hello Wei,

I don't think so. As you described: since Express is a file based tool, it won't be possible to include assignments in ARIS. In addition, the linking between ADF files is not type based, whereas the assigment concept in ARIS is defined by the ARIS methodology.

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thank you for the quick response. Referring to your earlier post, I would presume that the best way to link models still remains to make assignments after import of the adf's into the ARIS suite? :-)

Best regards,

Wei

Hi,

just some questions - maybe somebody has an answer?

1) Is there any possibility to import ADF into ARIS Business Architect (SR_2009_1) ?

2) Will there be any export possibilities from ARIS Business Architect to ARIS Express?

Purpose: Mobile Redesign of Processes with BPO. Or are there any other possibilities?

Best Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

1.) No, this version is too old.

2.) Again: no. ARIS Business Architect supports mechanisms (occurrence copies), which do not exist an ARIS Express and would lead to data loss.

Bye,

Frank
