Do you like to cook? Well, a cooking recipe is rather similar to a process model. It tells you what steps to take in order to produce a delicious result. Some steps can be carried out in parallel, sometimes you have the choice between different options. The recipe defines the process inputs (the ingredients) and sometimes the required resources. If you cook together with friends, you will probably have several different roles.
So why not model cooking recipes in order to learn BPMN, the new standard notation for business process modeling? You will need the standard modeling symbols, such as activities, gateways and lanes (for roles). Some of the BPMN-specific elements may also be useful, such as the timer event. After all, the right timing plays an important role in cooking. And maybe you even want to model exceptions, e.g. when you find that your meal gets burned, and you need to rescue it ...
I am curious about your favourite recipes, and how you model them with BPMN. However, you don't need to be an excellent cook in order to upload a recipe model. You can also start with modeling how to make an espresso or how to boil an egg.
If you submit your model here in the "Cooking with BPMN" group, you take part in a contest. You can win a free copy of my BPMN 2 book (see contest rules for details).
So don't hesitate and create your first tasteful BPMN model!
