Hi Experts,

I am facing issue in getting ARIS Server Administrator getting connection with ARIS Design Server 9.8.

Steps Performed By Me :

1. Installation using ARIS Server Installation and Administration Guide 9.8 as per step 3.1.1.4 Installing ARIS Design Server using the Standard Database

2. Installation using ARIS Client Installation Guide as per step

4.1 Installation of ARIS Administrator Tools and then

4.2.1 Installation of ARIS Architect and ARIS Designer - Microsoft® Windows operating system

After installation and running Design Server, in ACC all runables were in STARTED status

Now when I tried to execute ARIS Architect and Design , default wizard opened with LOCAL server as mentioned one, when trying to start throwing error

When trying to establish connection using ARIS server administrator server commond, it is not getting establish.

Request you to kindly let me know , if I did something wrong, or suggest the solution for this.

Thanks in advance

Dear Ajitesh,

In the setup ARIS Client did you select the option for installing a local database (=LOCAL)?

If you do so, you need to provide license keys during the setup.

But considering you already have a "grown-up" ARIS Design Server which offers more capabilities than LOCAL I see little need for a LOCAL server. LOCAL's unique capability is to have your personal ARIS databases always with you, precisly on your computer. The centrally managed ARIS Design Server may reside in your company's network, but LOCAL is installed on your computer where also ARIS Architect is installed.

___________________________

In the setup ARIS Design Server did you import licenses during the setup? If not, you need to do that afterwards before being able to use any ARIS client product (ARIS Architect/Designer or ARIS Server Administrator).

After importing licnese keys you need to assign client licenses to user "system", and optionally later also to other user accounts you'd like to create on ARIS Design Server.

And only after that you can connect to ARIS Design Server from ARIS Architect/Designer as well as ARIS Server Administrator.

Please let us know if any of my above explanations you couldn't find in the documentation.

Cheers

Rune

Hi Rune,

Thanks for your reply.

Have performed the above steps suggested by you. Still not able to establish access.

On one machine installed ARIS Client and selected ARIS Administrator Tools and ARIS Architect/Designer

[Machine which has ARIS Design Server installed on Windows with local standard database]

without local standard database system.

ScreenShot : 1

Other machine have installed ARIS Client and selected ARIS Administrator Tools and ARIS Architect/Designer

with local standard database system and provided ARIS Designer License.

Getting License Error after I assigned Design Server License to user system

ScreenShot : 2

Request you to let me know, where I went wrong this time.

First, let's separate LOCAL from ARIS Design Server. Both act as servers but are independent from each other.

While you can access ARIS Design Server via browser to maintain users, licenses etc., you can NOT do that for LOCAL. That's because LOCAL can have anyway only 1 user which is always "system". So there's no need to access user management of LOCAL.

But for accessing LOCAL from an ARIS client you need to import the client license keys either during setup "ARIS Client" or when running that setup once more and then importing the licenses. Doing so will avoid that error message shown in screenshot 2 when trying to open ARIS Architect on LOCAL.

In screenshot 1 you failed to access LOCAL via ARIS Server Administrator (although the look up of "absport" was right), because LOCAL gets started when you access it the first time with ARIS Architect/Designer. But that failed due to missing licenses.

"localhost" can NOT be used to access LOCAL. Therefore, the ARIS client connection LOCAL is already preconfigured after you have installed ARIS Client.

That wizard shown in screenshot 1 is only needed once to enter the computer name of ARIS Design Server.

Cheers

Hi Rune,

Thanks for your support, license issue got resolved once I used license file as zip.

But when trying through ARIS Server Administrator 9.8 to connect to Design server using server command it says "No Connections"

Please find the screenshot of the same.

Also please point us out any diagram , where we can refer to understand more precisely how these components are inter-related

Regards,

Ajitesh

For details about the failed connection please see the log file in %UserProfile%\ARIS90\log (if ARIS Server Administrator has been started from the program group ARIS).

Double check the port you used (14080) whether that's really the one ARIS Design Server is listing on. To do so start ARIS Cloud Controller via program grop ARIS and enter the following command (adjust _m to your sizing: _s or _l):

show instance loadbalancer_m

Look for the value next to HTTPD.port.

And the ARIS Technical Whitepaper (on the ARIS DVD in folder .\Documents\English) or on Empower (http://documentation.softwareag.com/aris/index.htm) outlines to some degree ARIS client and server products.

Cheers

Hi Rune,

Thanks for you continues support. Issues which I was facing got resolved.

As suggested by you, I have used the command in ARIS Cloud Controller, and tried with the port mentioned next to HTTPD.port

Now connection also got established.

Regards,

Ajitesh

Dear Dakalo,

I recommend to open a new discussion for your inquiry since it's a different product you are installing.

Cheers
