Hello!
Today I try to activate ARIS Express on 2 different computers with 2 different network connections, but I have only message "Unable to connect to ARIS Community...". Please check it.
Thanks
Hi Dmitry,
Do you use the windows installation or the download for other systems?
If you use the windows installation, you could try the webstart ("download for other systems") solution as well. If the registration works here, just deinstall, the webstart solution again, registration check will be kept.
The reason is, that the windows executable used other mechanisms for detecting the proxy settings. If the webstart version is able to register, we need to add an entry in the "frequently asked questions".
Bye,
Frank
Dear All,
I found a work-around for this problem. Posted here if helps anybody.
Problem: ARIS express needs internet connection for first time opening after installation. For users beyond corporate network, it is likely to give an error - "UNABLE TO CONNECT" even if you provide an userid/password which works fine when you directly login to ARIS community site.
I solved this much earlier for myself by trying the first-time registration through a direct connection, and that was it. But now as some colleagues are trying to do it on desktop, they are not allowed to take the computer outside office for a direct connection. So had to probe more.
Solution: An advice in another post here was to use webstart version. It worked for me but not for some other people who were using deskptops. You can try these steps -
1. Install ARIS express as usual using the downloaded installer
2. Connect to site https://www.ariscommunity.com using a browser and download the certificate file, I saved it as .cer on the computer
3. Import the site in the keystore within the JRE embedded for ARIS express (JRE folder within the local installation, the default keystore is named cacerts, and use java keytool for importing)
Step 2 & 3, is bit technical; it was easy for me as I had some past experience in how Java works, but might be a notch tougher for non-technical users. But there are plenty of other internet links which explains how you do this. Actually I had to use a HTTP sniffer tool to understand what is going on.
Hope this helps someone save a little of their precious time.

S. Das
