Is is appropriate to use a Data/Cluster to 'cherry-pick' the required entities and attributes read or written at the function level of an EPC model?

I want to be very specific about which entities and attributes will be read/written.

If so, do I assign an eERM attributes model to the Data/Cluster object and then create occurrence copies of the entity objects and their attributes that are required for the specific operation that the function object is modelling in an EPC.

Any guidance appreciated.

The assigned model for the Data/Cluster is an eERM attribute model, as follows.

Hi David,

in my opinion, the cluster/data model is the correct object type (at least for now). But you should assign a "full-fledged" data model (e.g. eERM or IE data model). In the attribute allocation diagram you cannot model relationships betwen entity types - and in some cases you need them to describe your "busness object" (e.g an order). Such a business object is just a view of the integrated global data model.

Note: You should change the direction of one of your connection types to the function :-)

Jutta

Hi Jutta,

I was exploring more on Entity Attribute Allocation Model, need your help in understanding what do we mean by FK, K and D Attributes? Are the notations used by David Kerins are updated? I am seeing oval shaped objects for these attributes, please help.

Thanks,

AJ

Hi AJ,

FK attribute = Foreign key attribute

K attribute = Key attribute

D attribute = descriptive attribute

The symbols you mention are the symbols in ARIS Business Designer or ARIS Business Architect. David Kerins used ARIS Express to model the attributes.

ABD/ABA and ARIS Express are different products with different symbols.

Regards,

Jutta
