I just downoad and install Aris Express.

As first impression, It seems that the product is strongly "Aris Standards" oriented. In particular, in  supported modelling languages.

For example, i don't find how to create an BPMN  model for business process pespectives. EPC  seems only be supported.

Same remark about usage of UML notation  Data Modelling perspective

Does it not possible to use UML or BPMN in Aris express ?

Hi Djebar,

the beta version of ARIS Express is not feature complete. That means, some things are still missing. One prominent feature is BPMN modelling. We have not decided yet if it will be in the first release of ARIS Express, but you can expect it to happen.

About data modelling: We wanted to settle on one notation and not provide several notations for data modelling. Therefore, we ran a survey among our ARIS consultants which data modelling notation they use in their projects. The result was that they prefer IE data models, which are ERM diagrams in the so called Crow Foot notation. Of course everyone will have different preferences here, but I think you can achieve similar results with all those data modelling notations.

Sebastian

I just want to strongly support Djebar regarding UML. I'm very surprised that ERM is preferred over UML Class Diagram. Was this survey local or international?

Hi Ivo,

the survey was conducted internationally. Also, ARIS Express is targeting entry users and not professional modelling users as you and Djebar probably are. In this context, UML is often considered to be too complex. In addition, ERM is typically introduced in many study programs, also for people studying engineering and not just computer science.

Sebastian

So,  for my beta-test, i will use EPC as  BP modelling language  and ERM notations.  As "test model", i will model an simple view of translations services  in an EU institution context.

Hi Djebar,

we thank you very much for giving ARIS Express such a comprehensive test drive. Next week, we will add a feature to the community that you can upload your ARIS Express models. It would be great if you do that so that we and other beta testers can take a look at your model.

Cheers,

Sebastian

Hi all,

I first would like to thank Mr. Djebar for this very useful paper from T. U. Wien.

My experience with Aris is from some years ago, and we always used the full version, but I remember to have ways to convert one model to another notation, given some semantic equivalence, as it seems to be the case with EPC and BPMN.

This text editor does not support the navigation arrows?

Regards,

Rodney

@Djebar: Pool/Swimlanes are not supported in ARIS Express for EPC models. However, this will be available for BPMN models.

About anonymisation: We won't do any changes to the models you upload. So it is the user who decides what he wants to share with the world. Of course, there is no mechanism builtin that every model gets shared automatically. But just wait and see. I think you will love this feature.

Sebastian
