Although we are using ARIS (BPMN) as main tool in our organisation, some make use of the tool Engage. This tool can create export-files in format .xpdl ARIS also should be able to ex- and import these files. I have arranged a temporarily licence in ARIS which should enable me to do so and (have activated this licence (I think...)

However I can't find any subscription in the Help about XPDL.....

Is there anyone who can tell me how to export and import in XPDL-format?? (or can point out where I can find instructions?)

Hello Jurrie,

XPDL is the internal exchange format for the integration between Software AG Designer (the design tool for webMethods) and ARIS. This exchange is governed by APG and as far as I know not available externally. (Anyone, please prove me wrong.)

The exchange format to be used with external BPMN sources is .bpmn

These are the namespaces used by that file type:

xmlns:semantic="http://www.omg.org/spec/BPMN/20100524/MODEL" xmlns:bpmndi="http://www.omg.org/spec/BPMN/20100524/DI" xmlns:dc="http://www.omg.org/spec/DD/20100524/DC" xmlns:di="http://www.omg.org/spec/DD/20100524/DI"

XPDL was useful up to BPMN 1.x. BPMN 2.0 prescribes the XML representation of the language, which is why XPDL is becoming obsolete and ARIS uses the BPMN 2.0 .bpmn file format for process information exchange with 3rd party tools.

Hello Jurrie,

I just learnt that I was wrong in the first paragraph. XPDL is no longer used internally and also APG is not involved in that any more in the later ARIS versions.

Hello M.Zschuckelt,

First: thanks for your responses, second: my excuse for this (very) late reaction. (Due to other problems the "XPDL-question" wasn't that urgent for a while).

In your second answer (2015-05-27) you "just learnt that....' Could you tell me where you found that (extra) information? From another user or within Software AG??

Because we possess (to) many models made with the tool "Engage", which can export in xpdl, I'm still searching for a way to import those models in ARIS......

Greetings,

Jurrie
