Hi,

i'm currently writing my diploma-thesis, which is a SWOT-Analysis including a redesign of the VDA5004, the pickup-process defined by the association of the german automotive industry.

Therefor, two questiones came up:

1. On which basis is the VDA5004 created? How is this type of visualization called?

 LINK to the process: http://www.vda.de/de/downloads/109/?PHPSESSID=mr4i5nuiacgp7cga9eu6ib3g34

2. What should i use for myself, if i want to visualize parts of this process or (if i want to redesign the process) including IT-Objects and process owner?

Makes it sense to take an extendedEPC (in german eEPK) or the BPMN or something else ?

thank you in advance,

Thomas

Can't anybody help me?

Or did nobody understand my question ?

Thanks,

Thomas

I think the answer does not so much depend on the source information, but more on the context you are going to use the models in. For example, is the company already familiar with one of the notations? If they already have some EPC models, you should probably go on using EPC. It is my feeling that you can express such scenarios with both BPMN and EPC.

So maybe you should analyse what they are going to do with your models after you created them.

My proposal is to do this decision based on the character of the processes. If we are talking about pure business processes without technical or automation aspects (and my feeling is that the processes you are referring to are in this category), EPC is the better choice.
Of course also BPMN can be used, but this makes more sense, if also implementation aspects or technical details will be added to the process descripiton.
