In this tutorial you will learn about the possibilities available to you for offline processing in ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager.

You can use offline processing to, for example, edit objects offline during a business trip. In addition, it provides people who have no access to ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager with the possibility to down- and later upload objects for editing outside ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager as an offline operator. You can process test cases, risk assessments, and questionnaires offline. You can receive detailed information about relevant objects and roles in the help.

For example, you can download test cases for a tester as a test manager or offline operator. The tester then processes the test cases offline. Finally, when the tester is finished, you can upload the modified documents once again.

Open the list of created test cases in the "Administration" module. Activate the check boxes for the relevant objects and download them. A Microsoft Excel file is predefined as the file format. Select the role the object is to be edited with. Because you will be passing the objects on to a tester for processing select the "Tester" role. The selected objects are locked in ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager for processing by other users. The offline file is created as a zip file. Save your offline file in the desired directory. Now share the file with the user who is responsible.

By the way, you can display your offline objects in the "Home" module. The downloaded objects have the status "Upload pending". The offline objects are displayed in all lists as locked. Objects that you have locked are marked with a blue padlock. Offline objects belonging to other users are marked with a red padlock. The offline editor, in this case the tester, can now process the available data without accessing ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager. He edits the relevant fields in the Excel file and saves his input. Then he provides the offline operator with the file for upload.
With the edited data from the offline editor you can then update the data in ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager as a test manager or offline operator. The "Upload" function is located in the "Home" module in the "Offline processing" area and in the forms of the objects that you download. Use the "Upload" function in the "Home" module to upload several objects at once.
Select the file the tester made available. Select the responsible editor for each object. Select the confirmation mode.

You can update objects automatically or manually. Information pertaining to the confirmation mode can be found in the dialog box help and in the general help. For the "Manual" confirmation mode a notification is sent to the user selected as editor during the upload stating that he can now confirm the changes carried out offline or, if required, correct them in order to save the updated version. This function is not suitable for uploads via an offline operator because the user responsible, in this case the tester, has no access to ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager. With the "Automatic" confirmation mode, editable attributes of the offline objects are checked automatically. You will receive a notification with information about the objects that were successfully updated and about which objects included invalid attribute values and therefore must be uploaded again after being corrected.

Open the notification. With the detailed information you can correct the errors made by the responsible editor. Then upload the documents once again. Objects that were successfully updated are unlocked, this means they can be processed by other users once again. If you downloaded test cases for offline processing yourself as a tester and edited them during a business trip outside of ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager, select manual confirmation during upload to correct errors that could occur in ARIS Risk & Compliance Manager directly. You will receive the required detail information in a notification.

Open the notification. Open the list of relevant objects via the link in the notification. The objects to be checked carry the "Check required" status. Open the objects and check whether invalid attribute values exist. If so, correct them. The fields with errors are highlighted in color. Correct the errors and save your changes in order to conclude the upload of the object processed offline. The object is saved with the updated version. The lock for processing by other users is unlocked. You can cancel the offline processing of objects as long as the object was not yet uploaded again by unlocking the lock manually. An offline file previously created can however no longer be uploaded. The function is available in the object's form and in your list of offline objects. In your list of offline objects click in the row of the object that you wish to unlock and click "Unlock". The object is unlocked and removed from the list of offline objects. It can now be processed by other users again.

You just saw which options are available to you for the offline processing of objects. You can find the procedure and valuable information pages, as well as a use case in the online help.
