The main advantage of Oracle BPA is that you can use it full (demo) version of Business Architect free for a long time (as a local client of course). There is only one moment that you need reinstall OBPA every month :) Of course, Oracle BPA has no so many modules as ARIS (it seems Oracle BPA has architect, publisher, server, simulator), but if you need no unnecessary functionality, you can use Oracle BPA.
It seems that Oracle has lag in versions from ARIS BA, and cycles of releases issues are different. But you can transfer data (databases, filters, scripts etc.) from BPA to ABA and back – from ABA to BPA (+/- three releases). For example, we have ARIS PLATFORM 7.1.0.508938 and Oracle BPA 11gR1(490292) (SR 2010_07) and we can transfer data from one to another normally.
Hi Alexander,
just because you can circumvent a license protection mechanism (e.g. by reinstalling every month) doesn't mean that it becomes legal. If Oracle allows you to test their BPA Suite for a month, you are probably breaking the license if you delete and reinstall it.
Hi Sebastian,
Every software could be cracked, and ARIS too. But I was talking about more or less legal way of ARIS using, so I dont see any problems if Oracle allows you reisntall their software (only business architect) . By the way, Oracle licences are cheaper then official ARIS, at least they were some years ago.
Hi Alexander,
I doubt that it is legal to go on using Oracle BPA Suite by reinstalling it every month.
Will Oracle BPA (powered by ARIS) support full BPMN 2.0 and its conversion into BPEL 2.0 in new releases ? Or is it better to use BPM systems that directly execute BPMN?
