Hi,
I have just installed MashZone and wanted to start it for the first time. However the MashZone server doesn't seem to start-up. When I start it as an application, I can see this screen after a while. Seconds later the screen closes.
This prevents me from starting the client. Does anyone have tips on how to resolve this?

Dear Harry,
Since you just installed MashZone, could it be that MashZone has been installed as Windows service and is already started (default option of the setup)? That would explain why another start as application runs into an exception.
To check this open Windows Services (e.g. Start/Run services.msc) and look for Software AG MashZone.
Also, please check %MASHZONE_HOME%/system/logs/ARIS_MashZone_InstallLog.log, as maybe the installation wasn't done properly or wasn't completed.
And then please check the log file in %MASHZONE_HOME%/system/tomcat/logs/MashZone.log. In your screenshot there's only a snippet visible.
Hoping that either way helps you to track down the root-cause.
Cheers
Rune
Hello Rune,
Thanks for the leads to check up. Two of them look okay - the installation log and the Mashzone service.
In the Mashzone.log however, I find an error saying:
" 2012-06-21 08:22:53,017 [main] ERROR com.idsscheer.ppmmashup.common.util.ZConfigurationHelper - init()- Unable not load property file "file:\dkrdshomedir01\initial_h$\harat\Store\Documents\ARIS\ARIS MashZone\system\mashzone.properties".
org.apache.commons.configuration.ConfigurationException: Unable to load the configuration from the URL file:/dkrdshomedir01/initial_h$/harat/Store/Documents/ARIS/ARIS MashZone/system/mashzone.properties "
and some fifty lines further down in the log file:
" Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: \dkrdshomedir01\initial_h$\harat\Store\Documents\ARIS\ARIS MashZone\system\mashzone.properties (The system cannot find the path specified) "
I have checked that the "mashzone.properties" is at the indicated location and is not read-only so that part is okay. But still it seems MashZone can't fint the properties file. Next thing is I will need to figure out why not.

Maybe it's about privileges in that folder or on that file. The MashZone service uses a system account on your computer, whereas the MashZone app runs with your credentials.
Seems to me that you are using a roaming profile, not located on your computer, right?
You once reported an issue about a limitation of your profile when trying to install ARIS Express:
http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/harryratia/2009-07-29-windows-profile-storage-space-fills
Maybe MashZone is now also affected by that limitation, although MashZone doesn't install anything in the Java Cache.
Sorry, but here ends my knowledge/experience about roaming profiles.
Cheers
Rune
Hi,
The roaming profile and privileges you mentioned made me think of installing ARIS MashZone a bit differently. Instead of using my home directory, I used a new location on the C-drive, where I actually have write access. It seems like only the "C: /Program files" is closed to me.
So now, after also updating the Flash player, it works! Great tip, thanks. Now on to the creation of my own mash feeds.
With greetings from Aarhus, Denmark / Harry
