Differenece between connect and design server ACC components

This defines the memory profile that is selected during the installation procedure. The suffix '_s', '_m' and '_l' effectively stand for small, medium and large and relate to the size of the Java heap memory allocated per each of the runnable components. 

AFAIK, the heap memory allocations (Xms, Xmx parameters) can be adjusted via the ACC if required.

Connect server has a couple of additional runnables to provide the user portal and collaboration functions that are not available within the Design Server product.  Connect Server includes all runnables of design server, plus these extra components. 

I did see a PDF that describes each of the components and their functions, but I can't find it at the moment.  If I find it, I'll post it here..

Thanks very much Ben for the information.

When I have Connect Server installed(I believe Connect Viewer to be installed in it too), do I need Publisher Server to publish my models say for ex: share with IT workflow.

I get an error stating publisher export has been defined for the model,PFA screenshot.

The published models should be viewed in Design Server, is there a particular way on this.

Re the Connect Server / Design Server / Publisher Server questions:

If you have Connect Server installed then you can use the Portal functionality of the Connect Server to publish the information to you user community with more of a collaboration focus (i.e. users will be able to comment, like, share models, etc - it's a bit like Facebook for ARIS ;-) ). 

You don't *need* ARIS Publisher Server to publish if you also have Connect, but there are of course some scenarios where it might be appropriate to do so.  The Connect Portal is a good collaboration environment, where process stakeholders, key users, modellers, etc, can collaborate easily on process redesign.  You may not want your average end user to have such collaboration abilities, in which case using Connect for the process design / owner community and Publisher for the end users (view only) might be a better solution.  It's really down to your requirements and organisation set up.

If you are using Publisher Server (either with Connect or Design server), you'll have to create a publishing profile to define the database content that you want to export.  For Connect, you can just publish to the Connect Portal from within the Connect administration area in the portal itself, where you define the database and the content versions (if using versionable DBs) to publish.  

The other nice feature about Connect is that there is a Portal based design environment, where modellers can make changes to the model content from within the browser accessed Portal itself, so no need for a local Designer / Architect client install.  As such there are two types of user licence for Connect - Connect Viewer (view and collaborate on model design) and Connect Designer (everything a Viewer can do, plus the browser based design function).  There are named and concurrent licence models available for each - speak to Software AG for more info. 

If you use both Publisher and Connect, make sure you install both systems on separate hosts - installing both Connect Server (or Design Server) and Publisher Server on the same host is not a supported configuration (at least it wasn't the last time I checked with Software AG). 

However, if you only have Design Server and not Connect, then you will have to use Publisher if you want to make your ARIS content available in a browser accessed portal environment.

Re your specific problem in the screenshot - I think that looks like a WebMethods integration issue (though I could be wrong).  Personally, I'm not too experienced with that as I have worked predominantly with Connect / Design Server with SAP integration and not WebMethods, but maybe someone else on here can help with that.  It looks like the action / workflow can't be started - there should be a detailed log file about it somewhere that could help.. 

Hope this helps understand a bit more about the possible ARIS product configurations.

Hi Ben,

Apologies for the delay in responding

I have configured and explored various steps pertaining to webmethods to share with IT workflow, it does say shared with IT during readiness check but does not actually publish the models or push to the server.

I believe somewhere or the other configuration with webmethods seems to a problem in this case, well let you know if I come acroos the solution.
