ARIS 9.7 extremely slow on some of the team members's desktop. These are the users who log on via the browser. I personally do not experience this problem since i log on via the server.
This slow response is particularly in the models, eg. when trying to make changes to the models. Logging on is not a problem. I have restarted the server hoping to improve CPU Usage but this doesn't make a difference.
What could be causing this problem?

if I understand you right, you are using the ARIS business designer via the download from the server; and not the browser based tool via the portal, right?
Question: are your colleagues using UMC user which are system userr (e.g. have database administration rights in UMC)? And: do you have many user groups in UMC?

I am the only user who has access to the server. I log on to the server and go to the internet browser in the server and type the URL to connect to Business Architect. I am the only one with the Business Architect License.
The rest of the team do not have access to the server and they only have Business Designer licenses allocated to them. They type the URL on the browser from outside the server (from their desktops). This process is relatively quick. The only problem is when they start to open models and try to edit.
These users do not have database administration rights. We are a team of 8.
We never used to have this problem on ARIS 7.1.

I assume you do not have this problems, but your colleages have. They do not have user accounts, which are system users, right?
Could you please check with your account settings on their machines?
My expectation is (what we currently detected and solved in the SR to come) is, that this performance problem appears if the users are not system users and their UMC users are assigned to some groups, and these groups have quite some users assigned.
If this is the case, which I ask you to check, this is solved in the next service release.

My user have the same problem, we all log on to the server on the same way, but "normal users" experience a very bad performance during creating or editting models. I however, logged on as "system" do not have this problem.
Your link, to an update which adresses this problem, leads to the ARIS Download Center with a lot of (self extracting) files (9.7d, 958105). Which one exactly should I download, all of them?? No, I hope? I can't see the number you added, 209.7x.....

9.7d is the current release which contains a fix for this performance problem.
If you have 9.7 installed, the answer to your question depends, what you use and what you like to update...
There is an self extracting file for the client, which is sufficient, if you use the client installed locally. If you use the download client from the server, you would need to update the server.

Saw this post and am experiencing exactly this issue at present.
According to SAG support:
Issues should be resolved in the service release/patch that was identified to resolve this issue, but only if you are running 9.7.0.0.5 or 9.7.0.0.7. Any later release of the client isalready includes the fix for this.
Now the bad news - we're running 9.7.0.0.9 and still experience the issue.
Our issue were first noticed when migrating databases from ARIS 7 to 9 whereby it obviously imports the users and groups retaining the permissions.
Firstly - The performance issue is not experienced by a system user because as such the permissions check is overridden. A system user has access to everything!
Secondly - The user groups although created with underscores and special characters are ironically not allowed to have "Special Characters" such as underscores in. Stupidly this does affect the performance... Who knows why.
Proposal - For those experiencing issues - try this. create a new user in the UMC, allocate the permissions at a user level not a group level. You will notice an improvement in performance, however you are choosing to deploy the client ( download link, or locally).

We are also experiencing this issue...
We are running ARIS 97.0.0.945975.
We have about 30-50 concurrent users during peak hours (+- 200 in total).
We have 38 user groups. These groups are not extremely big (5 – 20 users) with the exception of the read access group (giving all users read access to the Database).
The user groups are our way of controlling access for the various business areas. We will be looking at setting up LDAP in the future. How does ARIS perform with LDAP configured?
We’ve done a considerable amount of monitoring of the Network (no indication of Network latency), the Application server (no indication of being strained – VMware, Windows server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit OS, 8 CPUs, 32 GB Memory) and the DB Server (ORACLE 11, AIX support and ORACLE DBA couldn’t identify any bottlenecks).
I’ve also tested the System User setting and it does improve response times considerably. Unfortunately we cannot allow all users to have full access to all functions/models/objects as these are owned by different business units and users/role-players.
In the interim we will be looking at Dave’s suggestions around Special characters in User Groups & assigning access on an individual user level (which is unfortunately a huge admin headache).
Please keep us updated with regards to a release/solution to address these issues.

I am not sure about the problem, that special character have influence on the performance. Actually, I do not see any relation.
Generally: As I said: the performance bottleneck for users not having "system" privileges is already solved. In the download-center, a newer version is available (958105), you are using an older one without the performance fix.

Just to let you know that removing the users from groups and adding privileges on an individual level has resulted in significant improvements on the response times the users are experiencing...
We will download ARIS 97d and install it at our earliest maintenance slot and will let you know how that goes.

Has anyone had luck with this issue? We currently have 9.8 SR1 installed, we are using LDAP, and the performance for the client, which is downloaded from the server, is completely unacceptable. We only have around 10 groups right now with the majority of the users in one group.

Did you check already with Global Support ARIS about your performance issues?
From remote and without any technical facts it's quite impossible to recommend anything.
The performance issues discussed above are unknown in 9.8 and 9.8 SR1.
