Hi there,
i am new to Aris Express, so excuse any dumbness on my end please. There is the Arrange->Layout dialogue that seems to allow setting auto arrangement to horizontally. But when i select that, the model is still being laid out vertically. And when i close and reopen the dialog it is set back to vertical. Is horizontal a limitation of Express?

Thorsten
Hi Thorsten
There is a "use as default" checkbox under the model preview...
The online help gives you more information. (just press the help button in the layout dialog)
Bye,

Hi Frank,
thanks for the reply, but it does not matter if it is set to default or not. Here's to reproduce:
Create an event
Create an activity
Create another event
Create another activity
Have them all properly connected
Now if i go to Arrange->Layout the result is exactly the same no matter if i set it to horizontally, vertically or quadric.

Thorsten
Hi,
the option considers the satellite arrangement, like the text indicates in front of the combo box.
So what are the "satellites"?
ARIS differs between structure building objects and connections, and connections to satellites, which are not structure building.
In the example given below, the events, functions, and their connection are structure building, because they build the structure of the process itself.
The satellite objects are used to describe an object more detailled.
So, in this example, the satellites are place horizontally:
Below, the satellites are placed vertically:

Frank,
How did you get the BPMN diagram to use vertical layout?
I am trying to achieve the same in ARIS Express 2.4 and fail to do so. Pools and lanes remain horizontal even though I remove the "Horizontal layout" flag in the Layout dialog box of the BPMN diagram.
Best wishes,
Alo Joosepson
I found a way. Dragging the sides of the pool or lane so that they are longer vertically than horizontally does the trick. There is also a visual tutorial for this in Youtube which can be found when searching the phrase "Changing the orientation of a BPMN pool in ARIS Express". Cannot post link to video, because then my post is considered spam for some reason.
