Hello,

we are trying to do some Simulations on our models.

Currently I am facing an issues when running the simulation, that i get a warning, that there are "unavailable attributes". The body of the warning states, that the filter does not contain all attributes required for simulation and that some attributes cannot be changed.

Anyway, i can continue and the simulation starts (after opening a few FADs) attached to some functions.

Is there any way to tell, which attributes must be included in the filter? I believed that I added all relevant attributes to the filter but obviously i didn't.

Are there any attributes on:

  • Information Carrier
  • Cluster/Data Model
  • Application System Type

that are needed for simulation?

These were the only commonly used objects in the opened FADs. (Except from Function and Role).

Any hints or information are greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mathias Schacht

You can look at the Business Simulator filter to find out which attribute types are used by the simulation. If you want to be sure your filter contains everything you can also merge the Business Simulator filter into your filter.

Thank you for the hint. Haven't thought about looking there.

Unfortunately it looks like I used all the attributes that are used there too and some of the object types i meantioned are not even included in the filter.

Do you get the same message about unavailable attributes if you run the simulation while using the Business Simulator filter?

The problem with that approach is, that we added own Model Types and use a few more Object Type in our models than those defined in the Business Simulation Filter.

So the model won't even open with that filter.

I might try to copy the Business Simulation Filter and add all those missing types, but i think the other way round would make more sense, which i already tried.

Is there an easy way to import one filter into another, e.g. merge them so that all options in defined in either filter are available? Haven't found that option.

Check the ARIS help: Manage > Conventions > Procedure > Create filter (filter-based)

Thank you for the specific reference in the ARIS Help.

I merged the two filters, but i still get the same warning. Had hoped, that it might be due to some connection type attributes.

My current guess is that this might be due to some object Types which are not in the ARIS Business Simulation Filter but in our own filter but in the attribute groups i didn't find anything related to simulation.

I checked with Entire Method, which worked fine, so there really must be something missing in the used filter.

Is there anywhere a list available which attributes are needed for simulation?

Hm, a reason for merged filter not working could be that the Business Simulator filter is outdated and does not match the capabilities of the installed ARIS version. But normally the filter should be updated during an upgrade.

Anyway, there is a list of control and result attributes which are used by the simulation in the ARIS help, see "Optimize and control processes/strategy > Simulate processes > Valuable information > Modeling > What simulation-relevant object types exist?" and below.

Note that when you configure the filter, that most of the result attributes the simulation writes are in the group "Results". So when you check if all attribute types are included in the filter, you should not forget to look into this group, besides the group "Business Simulator attributes" which contains most of the control attributes.

I was able to successfully update the filter.

Very helpful was, that we do start ARIS with Java Webstart. In the Java Console the currently missing attribute is shown. In that way you can search them in the admin panel and add them one by one to the filter.
