KPI tree is not included in the BSC_en rule set of ARIS Business Optimizer. It's and essential part of the BSC method. The transferred objects in ARIS BO are like tree without roots. And actually all the data is in the roots. The upper levels are only structure/weighting relevant.

So, is there a reason for that? Some fix or a way arround?

The kpi tree is not part of the method, because the kpi in ARIS Business Optimizer can have a calculation formula. The BSC approach starts with the definition of the Strategy and the objectives in the different perspectives. Then, those objectives must be measured by kpi. The definition of the BSC in the method normaly ends with the definition of the kpi. In some cases, the kpi tree is used to define, how these kpi are aggregated or calculated. But this definition of the calculation formula is part of the rule set definition for the Business Optimizer. Because these calculations are different for each company, the standard rule set of BSC only contains the part of the BSC definition I described above. This part is the same for everyone but then the calculation is defined during the BSC projects together with each customer. Or the user could use the KPI editor in Business Optimizer to define these calculations.

Stefan,

Thank you for your answer! Of course the point of complex KPIs in BO is to calculate  their values according to the value of basic KPIs, operands in the rules set and structure of the model. And although the KPI tree in ARIS Business Architect is used only to show and calculate the achievement of objectives based on the weighing, that's a valid calculation method as well. Currently all KPI transferred to BO are cut from lower level KPIs contained in their assigned KPI trees. So you are unable to make even simple what-if analysis because the basic KPIs to play are at the lowest level of the trees. And those are not transferred.

Let's see if I understand you correctly: When we use BSC alone we can go with KPI trees if needed. When we use BSC with BO, we should design only to the level of KPI allocation  diagram and whatever is to be calculated at lower levels, requires customisation of the ruleset with KPI editor.

Ivo,

yes that's correct. With the kpi editor each user can customize the rule set himself.
