Report scripts are locked

Some ARIS scripts are only visible if you have the right license key.

Other ARIS standard scripts are locked to protect content.

I have "Script administrator", and all other, Function privileges, but see no way of assigning privileges more granularly than that.

This is affecting some standard and bespoke scripts, but not ALL scripts.

Some scripts which comes out-of-the-box with ARIS could not be changed (which means change the script source code). Even you have 'script administrator' rights. There is no possibility to open this scripts in the debugger.

I got the same "The script is locked." message when trying to open some scripts. But in my case, the scripts are not out-of-box ones but developed by somebody who has left. 

Have you found a way to unlocke a script?

You can set security properties for scripts (even for not out-of-box scripts) e.g. write protection. This settings are password protected. Which means, if you do not have the password you can not change the security properties.

Open the script properties. Click in the field "author". Press the keys: ctrl+shift+alt+k

So none of these comments actually solves the problem. Has anyone actually solved this? If so maybe you could enlighten us all? If no one actually has a solution I will open a support ticket with Software AG.

I have all the Administrative rights and privileges possible and still can't get past this problem. I am on Aris Connect (browser) 10.17 and am also tried the Aris Architect 10 Client. I make a "duplicate" of an out of the box report so I can use it as the basis for a report I want to create. Actually I just want to provide some addition detail the to "Display Data Flows" report. In Aris Connect I can select the duplicated report and then select from the top menu "Unlock" or click the elipsis and select "Unlock". I receive I nice light green highlighted message towards the top of the screen stating "Successfully unlocked script" and then the guid. However, when I then try to open the duplicated script (via the Aris Architect Client because you can't edit script in Connect) I get the original "Opening script Copy of Display data flows is not allowed. The script is locked." 

I should note that MANY other out of the box reports I can edit (even without making the duplicate) so it seems to maybe be something specific to this "Display data flows" report and maybe some others that I have NOT hit on yet.

So again is you have a solution it would be great if you can share it.

well, there are just some scripts which SAG has defined that they are not to be opened/edited. Some, but not all...  And this has NOTHING to do with function rights etc.

If you have your "own" scripts which are PW-protected and you cannot find the PW anymore, you should try to open a ticket with SAG if they are able to open them for you...

I wonder why SAG would figure the "Display Data Flows" report is so super secret that it has to be "locked" and therefore not able to be used by paying licensed customers so that we can be more efficient and use the report as a basis for something more detailed rather than writing a new report from scratch.

I will open a SAG ticket as this is just frustrating and in reality quite silly and see what they have to say. Any information that I get I will add it to this post.

Not solved, but thought I would give an update on my SAG ticket. So SAG replied that you need these licenses:

IT Architecture License:

YAA (ARIS Architect) + YAAIT (ARIS Architect extension pack: Enterprise Architecture Management)

Unfortunately, I DO have BOTH those licenses assigned to my user and I still can't access some Reports (and Macros) to make a Copy for editing. I can RUN all of them.

So the saga continues with no solution of viable explanation (IMHO) yet.

Please tell them, you want to OPEN the script not USE it...   

So the resolution so to speak. It came down to semantics. SAG was saying with the YAAIT license that I could "access" the particular Report (Display data flows) that I was concerned with and others (Reports & Macros). When SAG was saying "access" they ONLY meant that you can RUN the Reports/Macros. They are LOCKED from Opening, even in a duplicated copy. 

On a case by case basis you can Open a SAG ticket and SAG may, at their discretion, provide you with an UNLOCKED copy.

So NOT what any of us were hoping to hear I would say. I am trying to see if a list can be produced of those Reports/Macros that are LOCKED so that at least with the current Reports & Macros it is not just by trial and error that we find out if they are locked. I will either post the list here if I get one or will post that there is NO such list if that is the case.

I am also going to create a suggestion on the Ideas site that if we have licenses to RUN a Report/Macro that we should be able to CREATE an UNLOCKED COPY.

One final comment on this issue.

I was able to get SAG to produce a Current List (as of 28Mar2022) of Reports and Macros with an indicator as to whether the report/macro is Locked or Not. I have attached that list as it is somewhat helpful.

I am still going to creae the Idea item as soon as they get my logon straighted out. Been waiting on that for over a week already. Oh well.... :-)

Re. scripts that are restricted to a license type, I found a solution in SAG's knowledge base newsletter which should still work in Aris 10 as ong as the script ist not locked:

Description:
Users who only are assigned an ARIS Connect viewer license can't execute standard reports from ARIS Connect portal as the report dropdown field does not show them. For users who ARIS Designer license + ARIS Connect Viewer license are assigned, there is no problem to execute these reports from ARIS Connect portal.

The concerned reports are:
- Export graphic as PDF
- Output functions across multiple assignments
- Output model information
- Process manual (example)

Resolution:
This is an effect that is already fixed in ARIS 9.8 SR3.
Currently, there is only a workaround available for ARIS 9.8 SR2.
1) Use ARIS Architect to export the scripts.
2) Open the .arx file with WinZip, WinRAR, etc.
a) Open the file '<GUID>.info' with a text editor.
b) In the XML element <scriptinfo> change the text of the attribut 'topics' to an empty string ==> topics="". (Before it should be something like "BPA,PLADMIN")
c) Make sure the changed file will be saved in the archive. (7zip, WinZip: Save the file outside the archive and then add it to the archive).
3) Import the changed .arx file again.

Interesting information Martin. I will have to give it a try, but it sounds like that would just allow Users to be able to RUN a Report/Script, not actually be able to make an Unlocked Copy that you can then Modify and Run.

Thanks for the list Michael - It is helpful to know - Yeah making a copy and leveraging an existing script is helpful and protecting the standard one out of the box makes sense. But we really just want to extend some of these locked scripts just to add a few parameters which would be helpful. I just don't have enough time anymore to dedicate to script development from scratch.
