ARIS attributes - insert image

Hi Cecilia,

you can use the link attribute to link an ARIS element with an image. But I'm not sure if that's your intent. What do you mean with publish images out of the attribute field? Do you want to see the image as attribute value inside of the ARIS model?

As Uwe said, you can use a link attribute to hyperlink to anything including an image file, if that is what you are looking for. You can either use an existing link attribute or create a custom one.

If you are looking to display an image on the model based on an attribute value you can also do that by using attribtue icons. This requires modifications to your method and filter but it can be done

to be more specific with my question - what I'm trying to do is author instructional text and graphic images into single attribute field. For example for the Processes object named "Log onto application", I want to specify in a single attribute field in that process object the following:

1. Click on login button

.... <insert a screenshot here>

2. Navigate to the next screen

3. Press OK

is that possible in ARIS? where in a single attribute field I want to host a mixture of text and images?

I don't know of a way to do that with ARIS. If I was going to do that I would probably insert an OLE object and display the content next to the object. Not exactly what you're looking for but it's the closest I can come up with. Maybe someone here knows of a way to embed html in a text attribute?

Just select Insert -> OLE Object from the Menus at the top of the window and follow the prompts. ARIS sometimes seems to have difficulty with already existing files for some reason. When I encounter this I select the "New File" option and select the same file type as my original. Once you select all the appropriate options the program associated with the selected file type will open. Then I copy and paste my original content into the new file. When you save and return to ARIS the object will be imbedded in your diagram.

Hi Cecilia and Rick,

it is possible to embed html code in an attribute with ARIS 7.1, but only in a very limited way. Html formatting partially works, but the hyperlinks or embedded graphic will not work. So the only way that works at the moment is to use OLE objects as described. We'll take it as requirement to improve the capability of ARIS to insert graphics directly in a diagram or to support full html in attributes.

Hi Rick,

I just figured out one way to display symbols in the models.

By going to the "Object Properties - Attributes placements(objects)" & clicking on the "As Symbol" checkbox on the extreme right, displays the symbol.

If there is any other way to do this, then i will be gratefull if you share it.

That is the way to do it. In the Administration module there are other opportunities to configure the symbols. You can add new Attribtue Symbols in addition to the ones provided out-of-the-box. This seems to be a little tricky as you must use an existing symbol and import another symbol for it. The symbol sizing seems to be an unseen property of the symbol itself. So far I haven't found any way other than trial and error to get the symbols the size I want them to be.

Once new symbols are added you have the option of displaying a different symbol depending on whether or not an attribute is maintained (has a value in it or has been left blank). For attributes with a list of values or a boolean attribute you can also select a different symbol for each value.

Hi Rick,

Every time I add an object "Organsation Unit", it appears as default. I have to manually add the symbol to each new object that I am creating. 

Is there a way to set this option for all objects(Organisation Unit) that I create?

Hello Nelson,

am I right assuming that you mean, the attribute symbol appears as default? This should not happen. If you change the attribute symbol in the configuration module and define a template, that attribute symbols have to be used, it should work. If this is not the case please contact the ARIS support to find the reason for the not correct behavior.

Let me expain the scenario.

I am trying to create an Organisation Unit with a symbol. The org unit has an attribute "Export to Doors" with checkboxes. I would want the org unit to display the symbol when I check it.

So to do that, I have assigned a symbol to the "true" value of the attribute(Export to Doors). This symbol will only be seen when I right click it, go to the properties window and check on 'As Symbol' checkbox.(see Pic 2)

This has to be done whenever one creates a new Org unit.

Pic 1: has two org units, one with the symbol and  the other(the newly created one) without it.

Pic 2 shows the manual changes required for every org unit, to display the symbol(See the red square).

3. Every time to get the symbol to be displayed, one needs to manually configure the porperties of the symbol. I wanted the changes permanent for all Org units in the diagram rather than manually doing it.

for this purpose you can use templates.

Templates can be configured in the administration module under Configuration/Templates.

Nelson,

As Jens pointed out, templates can be used to set the display characteristics for any objects in ARIS. Once you have the Template created you may also want to go into View -> Options to set that as your default template for new models. Otherwise you can manually apply the template whenever you wish to one or more objects or models by selecting them and right-clicking and using the Format -> Apply Template selection.
