I'm looking for a way to model a piece of equipment and identify the connected utilities/services (such as electricity, compressed air etc.). I've looked at a number of models (e.g. Technical resources model, Industrial model and Task allocation diagram, but haven't found a way to connect the services to the equipment (for which I'm using an operating resource type object). Any suggestions?

You could have a look at the Product/Service exchange diagram.....might work for you.

I looked at using the product/service exchange diagram, using General Resource and Operating Resource (you can simulate these), but then you are stuck because you can’t relate them to each other or assign models to them or relate them to a location.

I found that by using an "Access diagram (physical)" and user-defined equipment and Utility symbols for each of "Equipment" and "Utility", you can connect them using the "uses" connection type. It's not elegant, but means that you can at least model equipment and utilities.
