Hi all,
I need an object I can use on EPC that is a 'Data Store' and is different from an application i.e. a repository that contains information accessible by users.
Our business has a lot of these (homegrown) and I need a suitable symbol that can be used on EPC but isnt an application. Note that ARIS has a data store object, but it can't be used on EPC.
Thoughts welcomed!
Thanks
Peter, Data Stores in BPMN are information carriers and not applications (another poor symbol choice in the spec, like the envelope representing information as well as physical objects). Therefore you can use any info carrier available for EPC, e.g. document, floppy, etc.
If you want to be a little more abstract, you also can use the Technical Term object. I have used this on other projects when we didn't want to determine the format of the information.
There is also another interesting view on this at http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/uro/2009-08-25-data-modeling-layers-aris.
If you like to show another IT Application Type, you can derive a new object from the Application System Type and assign a new / modified symbol to it.
