We are in the process of setting up our Togaf 9 Modeling environment and in the technology architecture we need to model our Virtual Server environment where we have physical servers on with the Virtual Servers run. We also make use of SAN servers for the disk space for the virtual environment. I want know that the best way of modeling this environment.
I have modeled Virtual Environment using the some object as the Physical Environment. So for servers in either of your case I would use the Hardware Component object for both the Vrtual and Physical server. If you want to make a visual distinction between the two you can use object color or make a change to the symbol.

I agree with this same physical/virtual approach. Each time you convert a physical server into a virtual machine, it would be very heavy to modify your model, changing the object type to reflect the P2V operation. You can discriminate (a little) by using an attribute like Producer=vmware or any virtualization solution seller.
About the SAN representation, we use a full designed object (material type) for this, having many connections to all servers enclosed in farms and network areas.
