Reuse is a key enabler for improving business efficiency. It’s a global market – we can’t afford to do things differently in every country and for every product, but at the same time we want flexibility and innovation… and we don’t want to keep paying to have new processes and IT systems developed. So we have to reuse everything we can, but in practice reuse is harder than it sounds, both conceptually and managerially.
So although the concept of reuse has been around for a long time, do we understand what process reuse means?
To try and answer this question and provoke some discussion I have identified three key categories of reuse:
- Structural Reuse
- Design Reuse
- Implementation Reuse
I am also suggesting some things we need to understand in order to achieve effective reuse in these key categories.
To read more, see the article “Process Reuse – do we understand what it really means? ” in my quarterly column on BPTrends.
