I have strared working on this fabulous tool. I have reached a level where im unable to proceed forward in how to build a vocuablary, and create business rules?

Furthermore, i would like to know how to do this from scratch? Where I should start from? Should I build the vocabulary first and then the business rules? what is the rulesheet? How to implement a complete business rules for a given vocabulary?

Im wondering if there are some articles with full example(s) in this regard.

Thanks

Hi Ms. Samer Ghanim,

the Vocabulary is the base for all the other models in the Business Rules Designer (Rule Sheet, Rule Flow and Rule Test).

Business Rule Designer in ARIS 7.1 and 7.2 supports the following models from which a vocabulary can be built:  UML, ERM and IE Data models.

The first step for creating a Vocabulary is to have one of the previously mentioned models prepared. Then you can create and populate the vocabulary in different ways (ie if you are in the Business Rules Designer Module you can create an empty Vocabulary and then drag&drop an ERM model).

So assuming that you have an ERM model correctly built, with the drag&drop, all the entities, attributes, relationships will be automatically transfered into the vocabulary.

Once the vocabulary is available then it is possible to create a Rule Flow where you define the Rules. In the Rule Sheet you define rules based on the vocabulary built based on the ERM model (for example). If you need some more attribute in the vocabulary you need to add the attribute to the ERM model and then the vocabulary after synchronization will contain also the new attribute.

The Rule Flow is another model type used in Business Rules Designer where it is possible to chain 2+ Rule Sheets. This is useful in case the Output of a rule is also the Input of the next Rule.

The Rule Test model is used to test a Rule Sheet or a Rule Flow. So once a Rule Sheet is prepared, you can directly check if the rule is correct.

I am not sure if there is some article or full example available, but I hope that with this short overview and using the help provided in the Business Rules Designer you will be able to get to the next level.

Best regards

Thanks a lot for talking the time to reply for my questions. I have followed your instructions in completing a vocabulary example. However, i was not able to understand how it works. The problem is that how to link rules to a specific vocabulary object. Moreoever, im really unable to understand how rules work on ARIS. How to define a rule and use it.

Thanks

On the ARIS DVD, in the Docs\<language> directory, you can find 2 PDF documents called 'rule_language_guide.pdf' and 'rule_modeling_guide.pdf'. I hope those documents provide the necessary answers.
