I am exploring the Import > Visio VDX files for BPMN 2.0 models. When the procedure is started, the user needs to point one out of three options for the source visio file:
- BPMN 2 Model (w & w/o template)
- BPMN Diagram
- BPMN 2.0 Diagram.
There is no help on how Visio versions (2007, 2010, 2013) link to the options above. My testing experience proved that BPMN Visio 2013 is best imported with the second option, but it would be helpful if anyone knows what option 1 and 3 are for?
I am also confused with configuring the mapping, for example Visio 2013 to a BPMN 2.0 Process diagram in ARIS. Seems that whatever Visio sample diagram/template I would like to use, I can only create mapping to a BPMN 1.0 Process diagram. Has anyone else been digging into this topic?
I am using ARIS 9.7.2

Hello Silviya,
yes, there is a trick to observe. When you are in the "Configure Visio mapping" dialogue and selected your Visio drawing type, press <Ctrl> and then click the "Edit..." button. Then you will also receive "BPMN Collaboration diagram (BPMN 2.0)" as target model type in the "Visio Mapping Wizard".
You find this hint in the Help of the "Configure Visio Mapping" dialogue in the description of "Edit". It warns you, that you may need ARIS Scripting knowledge to achieve successful imports.
By my experience you might be successful also without scripting, but it will depend on how your Visio shapes are crafted, if the result turns out as expected. Pay some special attention to the connection types that are generated and change the default mapping, if necessary.
