Does anyone know where this headache is coming from? Uhh, the conference event :-) But ok, back to business... Today is day 3 of ProcessWorld 2010 in Berlin, which is going to conclude the conference. The day starts with the keynote speech of Mr. Streibich, CEO of Software AG.
The keynote started with a short video with impressions of the day before. Really good job to put it together in such a short time!
Mr. Streibich introduces his talk with the words that he will focus on business process excellence. He says providing business process excellence was the strategy of Software AG for the last years and probably for IDS Scheer for the past 20 years. He shows some key figures of the combined companies like 1 billion Euro in revenue, more than 10,000 customers, 6,000 employees including 3,500 service consultants. He also explains that Software AG is owned by Software AG Foundation. This foundation spends more than 30 million Euro each year to support disabled people. This will also ensure that Software AG stays an independent player in the market, because the Software AG Foundation won't sell it.
Today, Software AG comprises 4 major brands:
- ADABAS
- NATURAL
- webMethods
- ARIS Platform
According to Mr. Streibich, a CEO has 3 dimensions to develop his company:
- growth & expansion through globalisation
- value creation through innovation
- agility & flexibility through process excellence
He shows that Software AG is present globally, but that it doesn't aim to be present in every single country. Instead, Software AG tries to be near its customers. The same applies for research and development centres. Software AG got centres in IT hot spots like Silicon Valley or Israel. At the same time, there are also offices in eastern Europe and India to lower the overall costs. Of course Software AG also got huge development centres in Germany, where the headquarter is located.
Mr. Streibich says the key design principles for Software AG products are:
- integrated technology for BPM
- neutral technology platforms
- ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership
According to him, those key principles lead to a very high evaluation by market analysts like Forrester and Gartner. The combined companies are leaders in all relevant reports by Gartner and Forrester.
He sees business process excellence leading to a paradigm shift towards business IT. Business results will surpass the implementation of ERP.
With the acquisition of IDS Scheer by Software AG, the combined company is now able to provide the complete process life cycle.
To locate the business of Software AG, he outlines the technology stack of a company (from top to bottom):
- process intelligence (e.g. ARIS PPM, ARIS MashZone and BAM from Software AG)
- process engines (e.g. webMethods BPMS but also partly ARIS Platform)
- middleware (Software AG got e.g. ESB products here)
- applications (partly targeted by Software AG with ADABAS)
- hardware (Software AG not present in this market)
According to him, most CIOs are still caught with 80% of their budget in maintaining hardware and applications. Some start taking up on middleware to integrate their applications, but only a few have leveraged the upper 2 layers. This is not satisfying to him, because 80% of the IT budget is spent on commodity, which will not give a company a competitive advantage.
At the end, he summarises his talk by saying that Software AG focuses on making the world a better place by helping companies and institutions to be more efficient and focus their budgets on things, which really matters.
Mr. Streibich introduces its a man who light our it technology.
