Hi,
What are best practices regarding upgrading to ARIS 9?
Why should you upgrade? When should you consider to upgrade?
Is it smart until other customers have upgraded?
Will it be easy to upgrade? What problems can you expect?
Do you upgrade the application layer or do you have to make changes to content (flows) as well?
Are there tips available?
How much time/ money does an upgrade cost?
Regards,
Tim Ruijters
Hi all,
Why don´t you participate in our webinars: http://www.softwareag.com/special/webinars/ARIS_9_Series/index.html You will learn about ARIS 9 and you will be able to ask the questions.
Best regards
Nina
Dear all,
Thanks for your feedback and sorry but we received about 250 questions, and we tried to answer as many as possible in the q&a session. The remaining ones are being answered now by email, please be patient. We are trying to satisfy each participant. And if there is still something unclear, you always have the option to directly ask your account manager.
It always takes a few days to prepare the recorded presentation and send it. Of course, you will receive it - as always.
ARIS 9 will be released beginning of next week.
If there is anything else unclear, please let me know.
Have a great weekend
Nina
Nina,
The sheer number of questions is an important feedback in itself. As I don't believe there are many that surprised you, the rest could have been answered already in previous communication via the brochures, webinars, this community and other channels. Maybe you are happy taking it as an indication of interest but they show another thing as well - the perception that things are kept unclear for purpose.
And speaking of feedback, IMO since the beta release last year, getting feedback on the release from a larger group than a few chosen clients would seriously increase the quality of the software. The consideration of trade secrets and competition was probably one of the decision factors for this approach, but I think these are less valid in the highly connected world we live in.
Dear Ivo,
Thanks again, feedback is always appreciated.
If I understand you correctly, you were expecting more information about ARIS 9 in advance to the first webinar last Tuesday. Well, we are promoting ARIS 9 and the new features and functions since last September with live demos at ProcessWorld, press releases, emailings, webinars, events (e.g. CeBIT) and newsletters. If you still feel not well informed or missed anything, please contact your account manager so he can discuss this issue with his marketing department.
Not even the testing but also the development of ARIS 9 was happening in close cooperation with our customers. It is not possible to give this opportunity to everyone but I will forward your concern to our product management.
Best regards
Nina

>> Is it possible to upgrade ARIS 7.1.0 to ARIS 9.0 using an Oracle database?
>> What kind of difficulties/problems could we expect?
You can migrate all data from ARIS 7.1 & 7.2 to ARIS 9.0. Databases, filter, templates, reports can be migrated.
ARIS 9.0 (GA version from end of April) supports only our standard database system. Oracle support is planned for 1. Service Release (end of June).
With version 9.0, ARIS has a central user management. Therefore, after migration of databases, you have to edit the migrated users (from ARIS 7.1 databases) in "ARIS User Managament". The migrated users needs an assignment of license and permissions.

Jörg
Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to let you know that the recording is available at the following link:
http://www.softwareag.com/corporate/res/webinars/ondemand/default.asp
Everybody who attended the webinar will also receive an email within the next day or two which includes the slides as well.
Thanks,
Nina
I’ve received “answers” to all my questions too.
Some of them: “Please get in touch with your Software AG contact”, “Please get in touch with your regional sales representative”.
It is easier to find water in desert then to be in touch with SAG’s representatives.
Does anybody knows how long time you need to get price for one additional module for old (!!!) client? One month!
Does anybody knows how long time you need to purchase ARIS? Three months or more!
Does anybody knows how long to get some information from “SAG contact” or “sales representative”? This is rhetorical question! What should I say if I’ve been waiting for materials from my report on Process Forum 2012 for present moment?!
Hi Alexander,
Thanks for your comment.
You had four questions, two of them were answered properly and in detail and the other two are sales specific and need to be answered by the sales colleagues.
I forwarded your complaints and you will be contacted soon.
If you need anything else, please let me know. My email address is nina.uhl@softwareag.com.
Nina
I did receive a follow-up e-mail with clear answers to all of my questions from the most recent webinar, thank you Software AG.
Alexander, you are not alone -- getting help from my SAG account representative is a challenge to say the least, for example I have been waiting over a year for a complete maintenance quote! Beat that! ;-) I can only hope that we can get our account straightened out before ARIS 9 is released ; but the good news is I will not be in a hurry to jump on the first release, so if it takes another year it won't really matter.
PS - from today's demo, it appears that I am not alone with problems losing the connection to the server, and apparently the underlying network protocol issues have not been fixed . . . another reason to wait for at least the first service release.
Thanks for the follow-up Bruce. Yes I sit in the US (West Kingston, Rhode Island), but Schneider is a truly global company and that seems to be part of the difficulty. I manage ARIS globally for Schneider, and I am asking for all of our licenses to be managed globally, not fragmented by country. Right now I am working with Kevin Doyle and Tim Fortier and hope to see a complete proposal very soon.
Hi again Bruce -- I thought we were making progress, but we are still stuck. I think we really do need some senior level person like yourself to help get this done. Please contact me at john.bertolet@schneider-electric.com so we can arrange a call to discuss and hopefully we can clean up the mess and move foward. thanks, John
