Hi guru's,
We are migrating from Aris 7.2 Business Server to Aris 9.8 Design Server.
Aris DS 9.8 is running and now I want to import the config backup I created on the Aris BS 7.2 (backupconfig c:\temp = _config.acb)
The manual says: import this file using the Server Administration Tool.
How do I import that config file into Aris DS 9.8. ?
Thanks for your suggestions.
Regards
Hi,
this is not possible , the manual refers only to ARIS databases, not to the "config" backup.
Please find here some collected useful information.
The 'backupconfig' and 'restoreconfig' commands are no longer supported in ARIS 9. Therefore it's not possible to restore a .acb backup from a complete ARIS 7.1/7.2 configuration.
Databases, filters, templates and script files from ARIS 7.1/7.2 can imported to ARIS version 9.0x
Customized
method elements can be imported via filter import.
Procedure
1. Backup the database in ARIS version 7.2.
2. Restore the database in ARIS version 9.x.
3. Export filters, templates and script files in ARIS version 7.2.
4. Import all files to ARIS version 9.x.
All data will be converted while restoring and importing.
How to migrate the Configuration (filters, templates) from ARIS 7 to 9?
A complete migration of the configuration is not possible.
We recommend this procedure:
ARIS 7:
- create a filter with all user defined elements (user defined symbols, attribute types, derived model types...)
If you want to migrate user defined attribute type groups, you have to activate at least one attribute in such a group in the filter.
- Export this new filter and all other user defined filter (each filter single)
- Export all user defined templates
ARIS 9:
- Import all filter and template files
All user defined symbols in that filters and templates are now in ARIS 9
Scripts
In ARIS 7.2
Stored in file system in category folders as a bunch of files with same GUID
contained code, localizations and metadata (execution context etc.)
In ARIS 9
Stored in system database
Preparation in ARIS 7.2
- Export all non-default reports, macros, semantic checks and report templates
- Remember script categories‘ names in all languages
No category export available
Import in ARIS 9.0
- Select a category
- Choose „Import script“
- Select the previously exported 7.2 script file (Report: arx, Macro: amx, Report template: art)
- Import the Script
If imported files have been exported together with the script they will also be imported
- Select either „Profiles“ or „Rule Types“ below Semantic checks
- Choose „Import“
- Select the previously exported 7.2 semantic check rule types and profiles
Report API changes
- Group is now derived from ObjDef
Purpose: suppport for UML2 elements which behave like groups
All methods of groups have unchanged semantics compared to 7.2
- Cannot create child elements of UML2 groups using standard API
- User handling has moved to the server
Database.UserList and Database.UserGroupList return all users from UMC
New methods Database.AssignedUsers and User.IsAssigned return only user having specific rights in the database (function rights/access rights)
For database methods for creating and deleting users, logged-in user needs the highlevel permission „User management“. Users are created/deleted on the server.
- ArisData.create/modifyConfigurationFilter needs highlevel permission „Configuration administrator“
Former configuration administrator password parameter is obsolete.
- Additional openDatabase methods without user name/password
- String OID differs from previous version
- No support for VB based reports anymore (import does auto-conversion to JS)
- Do not try to access the server‘s file system using java File object
- New ScriptAdmin component available in report scripts
Get, create, delete & rename categories
Import, export & delete scrips and additional files
Macro API changes
- Login object (from Context) additional methods
Connection name
Tenant name
- Explorer
login(serverName, dbName, userName, userPassword, dbLang, filterId)
replaced by
login(dbName, dbLang, filterId)
- Compatible (old method still exists but is hidden. Redundant parameters have no effect)

Hi Patrick, I am trying to export the Method/Attribute Type groups and Method/Attribute types, both User-defined, but can't find out how to do that. I created a new filter but could not select the Attribute type groups and types.
I am using the Aris 7.2 Business Architect client to make these exports
update:
The exports made via Architect Client are made and imported using the Aris 9.8 client.
