Hi,

The situation:

EPC has underlying FADs that contain a connection to a performer of the action (organization of person or sometimes system).

Question:

Is it possible in some automatic or effecient way to convert this structure into column EPC? (where performer of the action will be in header of column EPC instead of FAD?

Thanks!

Konstantin,

I am not sure I understand your reply.

1). There is no Create Model option, if I right-click on EPC model in the 'tree'

2). The question is not how to create a new model, the question is how to convert existing EPC into EPC column type.

Did you understand the question the same way? (I am not sure I explained this correctly above).

Thanks!

Hanna,

Have you tried the hint? It creates new diagram of selected type on the basis of original one. You can also delete old diagram. Result is the conversion. Is not the goal you are pursuing?

Hi Konstantin,

Probably you meant Generate Model option in right-click (I could not find Create Model option and therefore was confused). I tried the Generate Model option and it generates something which looks strange, but probably I have to play a bit with options, it could I will get what I need.

Thanks for the hit!

Hanna,

You right. A have Russian interface in ARIS, so I had to guess English variant of option name. What abt placement of objects while generating - it is old problem of ARIS...

Hi

Here is a tip.

You need to be careful when you generate column EPCs from a combination of EPCs and FADS for two reasons:

1. If you have a lot of objects in your FADs it can clutter the column EPC

2. If you have both organisational units and application systems types in the FAD then the column EPC will have columns for every combination of org units and systems. Normally you only create column EPCs using Org Units or systems but not both.

The solution is to use Show assigments to populate the EPC with the objects from the FADs that you want in your column EPC and then generate the column EPC just from the original EPC. To do this open the EPC - right-click Hide/Show > Show assignments and then select the object types you want in the Show assignment window. Now generate the new model. This gives you much more control over what is in the generated model. You can hide the assignments in the EPC if you no longer want to see them.

Hope this helps

Rob

Hi Millnd

One thing to make sure is that when you layout the model you have the correct horizontal or vertical layout direction set. After model generation to a row epc the layout direction is not automatically set to horizontal so you have to manually do a layout and set the direction to horizontal.

Dear all,

I would like to spread the use of Aris Express (AREX) within my company but i cannot correctly integrate AREX models (Business process) in Aris designer (ABD).

I suggest my users to create swiming lanes in AREX with Organizational unit objects (they enlarge the object, remove the color and use it as a fragment). Up to this point everything is Ok.

I import AREX Business process models to ABD which become EPC. No pb Yet.

But when i want to convert the EPC which contain both organizational units & applications I get a messy result with both applications and organizational units on top of swiming lanes.

I have already seen a correct conversion into an EPC column display with only Organizational units on top of swiming lanes and applications linked to the activities within the columns but I have no idea on the way to reproduce it.

May you support me on this issue?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Alex
