I installed ARIS Express by clicking on the download link. The application started, I registered with my community credentials. Everything seems fine.
When I click on "Geschäftsprozess" I am asked to provide database login information. Clicking "Weiter" leads to following error message:
My desktop and personal directories are located on an Intranet server and are not accessible by a drive character, i.e., they are located at \\fileserver01\desktop$\... and not at C:\...
What can I do to get ARIS Express to work?
Do I need to change security preferences in my browser or in the JRE to specific values? Are there config files that need editing?
I've just downloaded Aris Express 1.0. All seems to proceed correctly but then I seem to hit the saem problem described above..
When I click on the 'Organization Chart' button on the main page, I get the following prompt window:
Accepting the defaults and clicking 'Next' results in the following error:
If I click 'Help', it reports that it is unavailable:
I've tried other user ID/password combinations.
I've tried re-starting Aris.
I've tried downloading Aris again.
I've looked through FAQ's.
... all to no avail.
OS is Windows XP 2002 - SP 2
I have several versions of Java on my workstation, the latest being Version 6. (How can I check that this is the version that is running?)
Your help most gratefully received,
Martyn.
Hi,
I fear I got to disappoint you: currently, with your configuration, you're probably not able to run Express.
The problem is caused by your "home"-path: the system is not able to load the file from the given location, since it is not placed on your local hard disc, but on a network path.
We are looking for a solution.
Bye,
Frank
Hanno,
I'm afraid no workaround was posted following Frank Weyand's update.
In the end, I borrowed a laptop that had a local home drive and used that. My main purpose was evaluation so a temporary solution was adequate for me.
If you require a more permanent solution, may be Frank has new information?
Martyn
Hi Hanno, hi Marty,
yes, I have, at least I hope so.
In the last update a few days ago, (www.ariscommunity.com/users/frank-weyand/2009-11-06-aris-express-update-online), we also made a fix that should solve this issue.
So, please update your Express version (more information: see the link above). Then check whether you have the current version (Help -> About... -> number is "425270"). At least the error with that config file should be gone.
Could you please provide some feedback?
Bye,
Frank
Tried downloading and re-installing afresh but same problem persists. I don't think my attempt to re-install has changed anything (same version number in 'About'). Do I need to completely uninstall the exisiting version before attempting to download again? If so, how? I can't find an 'uninstall' option.
Martyn.
Hi Martin,
as described in "www.ariscommunity.com/users/frank-weyand/2009-11-06-aris-express-update-online", this depends on your JRE. If you've got a new one, just start start Express and wait... during working with the tool, you will remark a higher CPU usage... this is the update. You just need to wait until this is finished (some minutes). Normally, users just work with the tool and out of the box, they get the update.
If you've got an old one: start the tool, close it again, and you get a message that there is an update, which you can confirm.
Bye,
Frank
Frank,
It's working.
I was not leaving Express open for long enough to complete the update. The update would normally run in the background while I'm working but, because the application was failing, I was quiting out too quickly. Using task manger to watch for the activity to stop did the trick.
Thanks for your help,
Martyn.
