We run ARIS v96. We are trying to import models from a partner who has exported them from ARIS v9.7. But the import fails. XML import the other way seems to go OK.
Is this a known problem? Any workarounds?
I had expected xml import/export compatibility between v9.x versions. Or at least a backward compatibility option in the export.
Hello,
in general there is no option to export for lower ARIS versions. Higher ARIS versions may provide features, that lower versions do not. A downward path is not supported as far as I know.
By the DTD 96 and 97 export formats are the same, except that the 97 export format allows the value "97" for the attribute "ArisExeVersion" in the "Header-Info" element. You can find the DTDs (as stated in the online help) in the installation media under "Add-ons/DTD/ARIS-Export.dtd"
So one attempt you could make, provided you have the export file in plain text, because your partner used the Access-License for the export, is change that value from "97" to "96" before you import. However this may fail, if you encounter any objects that are new to ARIS 9.7, or other differences I have no knowledge of. I'm not in R&D. So, please try this first in a separate test installation and test it well, before you dare this in any productive environment. There is probably no support for such a procedure.
My recommendation would be, that both you and your partner move to identical ARIS versions or preferably the latest one, which is ARIS 9.8 SR1 at the moment.
