For ARIS Enterprise - is there a way to create a new custom object? I have found a way to create a variant for an object symbol - but I want the object to appear in the symbol pallet for users to pull in and use in modeling without having to pull the native object in and change the symbol.

There is a better way to create a custom symbol than play with a custom object, because eventually you'd need to define a symbol for a new object.
When you create a symbol, it behaves in the same way as a parent object and you do not need to set up all these meta-relations. Since you have a new symbol, you can define in your method filter a new one, and take the original one.
