We are trying to migrate from ARIS 7.2 to ARIS 9.7. We had installed ARIS Business Publisher server 7.2 with the standard database and it worked fine for our needs.
The installation guide for ARIS Publisher Server 9.7 says an SQL or Oracle database must be configured for publisher to work. Is there a standard database installation for ARIS Publisher Server 9.7??

Yes, you can install ARIS Publisher Server also by using its internal database (Derby). However, that's not a productive DBMS environment, hence, not recommended for other purposes than test, demo, training, workshop or the like. More details see chapter "2.1.4 ARIS Publisher Server Installation" in the "ARIS Server Installation and Administration Guide".
You could even provision/configure Publisher on top of ARIS Design/Connect Server via ARIS Cloud Controller. But this scenario is NOT supported, and meant again only for simplifying a demo or training installation scenario, e.g. for having the whole product stack on one single laptop.
If you haven't started with your migration to 9.7 yet, I recommend to go for the latest version 9.8 SR1.
