We have all seen a dramatic adoption in BPM tools in the last year or two. The BPM have become for some organization a major diferentiator in succes.
Altough we have processes embeded in every part of our business we still lack the functinality of managing them in our every day aplications (from HR, ERP, custome based etc). Nevertheles we still se the BPMS as a separate tool, not fused with our everyday business activities.
The general idea is, would it be possible to embed Aris in other aplications to provide a simple way for other aplications to use proceses defined in a strucutured way, exchange them with other aplications and make it intuitive and natural for end users.
This maybe bringa another topic, is BPM mature enough, there where similar problems with BPR with end user adoption.
Hope to encourage helpful discusion.
Hi,
I think there at least 2 different things you can aim at:
- Allow people to easily access a process definition through some kind of portal
- Allow people to create process definitions through a modelling tool.
The first point is easy. In case of the ARIS family, you take ARIS Business Publisher to integrate process definitions in your Intranet. The ARIS repository server itself also provides a web service interface so that you could request a process model as an image, which you could than include somewhere else.
Solving the second point is more complicated. Of course it is not a big task to install a company wide modelling tool such as ARIS Business Architect, but you also have to train people in the modelling languages they shall use. Creating new models requires significantly more knowhow compared to just "reading" existing models as in point 1. There are many ideas about capturing process knowledge along the daily work activities. IDS Scheer is also involved in one research project about this topic. Here, they especially investigate the usage of Web 2.0 technologies. However, it is ongoing research, so don't expect it to happen very soon ;-)
Cheers,
Sebastian
