Update to Aris 10 release 27 error

...and that is actually quite a big move from 13 to 29; are you skipping all the releases in between and did you consult the compatibility matrix?

This task was recently assigned to me to find out they haven't upgraded to the latest version for a while.

But after reviewing the ARIS install & update documentation, this shouldn't be an issue as long as I'm updating from ARIS version 10.0.12 or higher, I can directly update to the current version.

First, check your minimum hardware requirements and available memory/disk/processor usage. 

Sometimes, this process can literally last hours, especially when you try to run it with a lack of resources. I'd stop all other app on the server, reboot, try again - if it lasts more than 3-4 hours, I'd just backup all the data (DBs, filters, templates, reports, queries, users, etc.), uninstall the old version, then install new. Sometimes it is only the way.

Recently we have upgraded from SR 10 to SR 24.

First you need to upgrade your server OS to Windows Server 2019/2021. Earlier OS versions are not supported. Also check your Database version. Older versions might need a upgrade.

Then you should follow steps mentioned by Alex.

That info is gonna save me a lot of time, 

If may ask you in our system we are using Postgres as a database management system, but in the pdf you shared they are only mentioning Oracle and MSSQL, does that mean I have to change the DBMS to one of them and as well ?

I have concerns of losing any data in case of migration

You must not change your DBMS, and you cannot do this simply (a DBPMS change is a 100% new installation). Because these two Oracle and MSSQL have more complicated installation processes, that is why there is a lot about in the documentation. 

If you are going to change the operational system, then it is a good idea to install ARIS from scratch. 

But also, I'd do this on a separate machine, keeping the current one 'alive', then transmit all the data from one instance to another (I've mentioned above), then ensure that all the required data is transmitted correctly, and only after that I'd kill the old server. I don't know what resources and administrator privileges in you case, but if you don't have much, at least create an image of your Windows system along with ARIS Server.

I have the necessary privileges over ARIS and VM machines to do the upgrade they need

Since I'm not required to change the DBMS the steps you kindly mentioned are what I'm planning to do. Installing Aris from scratch while keeping the other server up and running until I make sure all operations went smoothly and data are transferred without any loss.

And on that note, you mentioned earlier:

Aren't all of these are included in the tenant backup image "default" ,Or do I need to take them separately one at a time ?

All these things (DBs, filters, templates, reports, queries, users, etc.) are included in the Tenant backup:

I do it one by one e.g. when I know there is nothing important in Collaboration, or Doc storage etc. because they could be huge.

If you have custom reports (scripts), double-check after the backup restoration if those reports are in your new server.
