I just downloaded and installed ARIS Express 2.4, I found the function element is divided into several categories: activity, person, entity, document, product, process interface, role, location, database, IT system and risk function.

nope, the "function" element is actually the "activity"... You may have a look at the demo models, e.g. the example for the process diagram type, which explains the elements.
