Hello community,
Is it only allowed to use the "process interface" symbol at the start/end of an epc model, or can i also use it in between a model to show a process, that is "outsourced".
with the attached epc model it want to show, that:
1.) We produce a product
2.) Send it to a provider, which does the quality check for us (that is the process interface/outsourced process)
3.) Provider sends it back to us
4.) We send the product to our customer
Is this a correct model, or isn't it allowed to use the process interface symbol this way?
Thank you very much in advance,
BG André
Hi,
since you do not intend to model the process of your external partner, I would consider using just a simple step and involving your external partner with an executing role. In the commercial ARIS I would also consider the option of declaring a business service to be employed for the external step (as a satellite for that step). A business service is an object you can attach your contractual parameters to, such as SLAs and detailed descriptions of the interface. But I am not sure, what ARIS Express has to offer there.
Also consider, that your quality check may have positive and negative outcomes. Maybe you have a different process handling the negative outcomes, which you would not see in this process, if you model it like this. And consider that sending your product to and receiving it from the partner also may be internal process steps coming with some (paper/documentation) work. Maybe your process simply ends with sending the product outside and a new process starts when (and if) it returns with a result. Monitoring processes for tracking the products being at the partner may also play a role, so you can escalate, if any don't return in a timely manner. Since these processes are probably the same for all external activities you could centralize them in a business service implementation "external quality checks".
