Migrate from Rational Software Architect 7.x+ to Aris

Hi all.

For a customer who wants to migrate from IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA), we're evaluating some modeling tools like Sparx Enterprise Architect (EA) and Software AG ARIS, among others.

The main constraint is to "keep" all job done in within RSA during these last years.

Using XMI transformations, we can see that "almost everything" can be imported into EA but I can not figure out which tool and how to import XMI files (*.emx, *.efx) into Aris ecosystem and work with them.

Any information about this, please?

Hello Arturo,

XMI is the meta-model behind UML 2.x. ARIS UML Designer supports XMI. So that would be the place to try to import to. ARIS UML Designer supports the most recent UML 2.5 version.

Does Designer" integrates with "Architect", as well?

I guess the customer will need much more features in future.

Not really. These are independent products. The UML designer does not allow to edit standard ARIS models (like EPCs) but starts the business architect to do so.

Hello Arturo,

please note, that "UML Designer" is a different client product from "Designer" and "Architect", which needs a separate license. Nonetheless UML Designer stores the artifacts in the same database as Architect does with its own. Architect offers views on the UML artifacts in the database and can link to the UML objects. You cannot edit the UML artifacts in Architect, but only in UML Designer.

Please test it first, since I do not know, what kind of things you have in RSA, that you want to import.
