Differences between XML transfer and normal merge?

Dear ARIS Community and dear ARIS Support,

we are planning to introduce a process release cycle in our enterprise.

Here we are thinking about how to organise the exchange of process models between two databases. Do you know the advantages of XML exchanges?  Or why should we prefer the normal merge procedure for the process exchange between two databases?

At the moment I don't see any advantages or disadvantages.
