Hi,
I have 250 Information Carrier objects for which I have created a specific attribute (text). Now, the content to be filled into this attribute is placed in Excel.
How can I transfer this?
Thanks!
Carsten,
There are a couple of ways to do this. You can copy and paste from excel directly into the Attribute editor in ARIS. This is quick and easy and works well for a relatively small number of objects. 250 may be pushing the limits a little although you could break it into several smaller groups. Basically you just multi-select the objects you want to update and open the attribtue editor for them. You will get the standard Attribute Editor window but there will now be one column per object. You can go to excel and copy a selection of columns and rows and paste them into the grid. Click OK and then save changes and you are done
You can also use the Process Generator macro. You can invoke this by selecting the objects you wish update attributes for and right-clicking and select Evaluate -> Start Macros from the pop-up menu. There should be a choice of Open Excel Table in Process Generator. The help facility in the Process Generator excel toolbar explains the process of using Process Generator. You will need to copy and paste the data from your spreadsheet into the Process Generator SS before upadting ARIS.
The above comments are in regards to ARIS 7.1, in previous versions Process Generator was run as a report rather than a macro.

Hi Rick,
thank you - I am using the Attribute Editor.
So now I converted my column in excel to a row. And I shoudl be able to paste now.
But for some reason, the order in which the objects are listed in the attribute editor is not alphabetical. That is a problem for me. Even if I order it by name first - when i right-click and go into the editor they are not alphabetical.
Do you know a way?
Thanks again
Carsten,
I played around a little and it seems that if you select the objects in a model and invoke the editor they show up a random order. If you select them from Explorer or from a Find result set they appear to come up alphabetically. No guarantee that this is always the case, but that is the way it worked on several tests I tried.
I'm glad that Process Generator worked for you.
Rick
The Process Generator tool is a great way to fill attributes in a collaborative environment. Like mentioned before, it is order of the context from which the macro is executed. If you do a sort based on name on the find panel, and run the macro, the ojects are arranged alphabatically.
best of luck
