while working in a model if I leave it idol for any length of time then go back to the model to try to continue to model it is like the model is in some type of sleep mode and can take up to 20 seconds to get the model to response to my key commands has anyone else had this happen and if so how did you get it fixed

are you using a Connect client or Aris Architect/Designer?
Apart from reasons in your network infrastructure or - in case of Connect Designer - your browser settings like http-keep-alive, there are settings on the Design server to control this behaviour:
