I have been using Aris express for the past few months and today when I tried to launch some of my BPMN models, Aris does nothing. It allows me to open any of the other new model types, EPC, Org chart, etc. but not the BPMN. It also doesn't allow me to open existing models. Has naybody experienced this issue before?
Hi,
could you send a BPMN file to contact@ariscommunity.com?
We did not set a new version of Express online, so there is no change here. Did you update your JRE or is there any other change? Bye, Frank |
Hi Frank,
I work in a large company so there may have been an update to the JRE but no notifications were issued. I can see the previews of my files but have also noticed that the file association to the application has also dropped in explorer, which would seem to indicate something is not right with java. I've tried re-installing ARIS but this does not seem to work. The BPMN files all worked fine on Friday but now I cant access the BPMN feature in Aris.
Thanks,
Damian
So, just for my understanding:
1.) you cannot create new BPMN models
2.) you cannot open old models, independently from the model type.
3.) you can create other models than BPMN, but if you save them, you are not able to load them anymore
I do not know what has been changed to make Express behave like that (and we never heard something like that before), but I think the only way to make Express work again is to remove Express with all dependent files from your machine.
So please proceed like this:
1.) open system panel, there: open Java. First page, temporary internet files: click settings, and "delete files". Also, copy the folder shown in this dialog, open the folder in the explorer and delete it manually.
2.) open in explorer the folder:
in Windows 7: C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\LocalLow\ARISExpress
in other Windows system: C:\documents and settings\<your user>\ARISExpress
Delete the folder completely.
3.) to install, please click here
4.) you need to reenter your community account
Did that help?
Bye,
Frank
Hi Frank,
Your understanding is correct.
I have done what you have suggested and this has solved the problem.
To help with the identification of this issue:
1 - I noticed in Explorer that I lost the file association icon for all my .adf files but they were present when viewing the files in Aris Express.
2 - I noticed that on the 17th May that Java had done an upgrade. The last time I successfully used Aris was before this upgrade. I have since upgraded Java to _25.
3 - I noticed that the C:\Documents and Settings\<MYUSERNAME>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache was very full
4 - I have never been able to fully uninstall the Aris Express 2.2 version... It is still in my Add/Remove software folder.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need and thank you for sorting this out.
Regards,
Damian
