Hey everybody,
can you tell me the difference between the function tree and value chain diagram? Of course, the value chain diagram is to describe the main processes. But more or less you describe the same funtions?
Hi Reinhold, my answer is not technical but more business related. VACD are often used for describing functional domains and/or end to end processes, which are characterized by sequential activities.
The function tree model is mostly used in my experience for structuring content with multiple hierarchical levels and are often used for library kind of models.
For example: the purchase to pay E2E model is often represented by a VACD, a workbreak down structure usually with a function tree.
I've recently had a conversation with a customer where I explained that the content in ARIS always has two purposes: 1. consumption (typically by the end users) and 2. maintainability (by the SME's or the modelers).
VACD's are meant primarily for 1, while function trees excel for 2. Does that make sense?
regards,
Caspar
