Here is the exception I get when trying to load ARIS express. It all worked well yesterday morning. However after 1 pm Jan 7 it consistently throws the below error.

Hi,
yesterday, we prepared the update of the new version. What we already did, was to skip the download from amazon and transferred the download to the community.
Thus, Express does not download each time you want to start it.
You were running into that timeframe, but that was only a short period and should be over already yesterday.
In order to cross-check, I downloaded ARIS Express right now and it worked fine. Please retest.

I tried a couple more times different combinations of reinstall-empty cache-run 2.3 vs 2.4. Yesterday evening it all looked very dark, I could only say the behavior of the application was very consistent...
This morning however, I thought about that you mentioned "the new version", so I downloaded the installer, which has apparently changed significantly, and installed.
Now finally with the new installer it all works fine. As a bonus, I got around an old problem that was haunting me: I used to not be able to export tp PDF. Now this problem is gone as well. It is good that youi are not dependent on being online in the new version.
Lesson learned: The old installer does not work in the new environment. For me at least.

ups, you were still using the 2.3 version? We changed updated that version some time ago (well, end of 2012) and released a windows version (http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/frank-weyand/2012-12-19-aris-express-24-released).
Normally, your 2.3 webstart version should have been updated automatically to 2.4.
However, good to hear that it is working now for you.
