Full database copy

Hello,

An ARIS user who's not a full administrator needs to make an archive of his database regularly. He hasn't the rights to use the Admin tool to backup and restore the database.

So I've designed for him a script which makes a full copy of the database using the merge component.

But there's a problem in using the merge component for this purpose : the script copies one by one all the database elements which can take several hours and above all the script regularly fails (and it's hard to know when and why...)

So, does anybody have an idea of a more appropriate way to proceed the full copy of a database by script ?

I would schedule regular backup on server and then share the backup folder in read only mode, or you could even copy this backup somewhere by batch file.

Instead of using the Merge component, use the ServerAdmin component like below:

var dbAdmin = Context.getComponent("ServerAdmin");

var activeDb = ArisData.getActiveDatabase();

var file = new java.io.File("[path-to-backup-file]");

var res = dbAdmin.backupDatabase(activeDb, file);

if(!res){

//backup was not successful!

}

This will be as running the export database from Aris Architect.

Thank you both for your answers. I didn't know the ServerAdmin component - and I was hoping someone would know about such component so I'm very grateful for the idea.

I'll try it as soon as possible :-)
