Sometimes I'm unable to create certain connections in a BPMN flowchart using ARIS Express. I don't understand why. Are there maybe certain rules or limitations? Please see attached screenshot: little black and white "forbidden" roadsign.

I did not remember that I ever had such a problem. Which objects did you want to connect? There are some BPMN specific restrictions. So a sequence flow never can cross the border of a subprocess or a pool. If you try this the tool acts as you describing.
