I would like to leverage your experience on the modelling of loops in business processes…
1. One school of thought is that all loops in the process logic should be modelled
2. Another school advocates that that feedback loops, or decisions loops, should not be modelled if they are implicit (an event ‘document approved’ implies that the activity continues until the end event becomes true) or if it creates complex spider webs in the process diagrams. Then an event/ process interface should rather be used.
I would say it depends on the modelling language you are using. In EPC (what you are refering here) generally if it is trivial it is not NECESSARY. Please note I said not necessary as it might as you said it will create complex spider webs.
However if you are using BPMN modelling laguage, modellers generally use loop to capture the scenarios. Reason- it is because it is easier and also BPMN do capture information at a more detailed level (debatable).
