I find the Business Segment Matrix a potentially useful model. However, even after the introduction of attribute-based modeling, instead of having the radius of the business segment controlled by a user-chosen attribute, it is limited to 5 fixed symbols. Why??

Dear Indrajit,
I understand the benefit of that simplification but the risk also remains. It is the same risk as taking decisions by averages. One can drown in a river that is 5cm deep on average.

Hi Ivo,
This is just my opinion and I am not an expert in this subject. The only reason that I can think of is "categorization" which then helps to take decision based on these categories. However if SAG makes it possible to choose the radius to be anything between 0 and n, we lose the categorization and hence the decisions can no longer be made for all, say, "Very important" business segments. Happy to hear your opinion and of course what SAG feels about this.
Thanks
