Hi all,
It seems that we are not able to work with ARIS Express in offline mode. Everytime we start up the program it responds with an error to retrieve the certificate. Is there a way to disable this option?
Kind Regards

Hi,
no, that option does not exists. Normally, if you accept this certificate once, you'll never asked again.
Is it possible, that you use some "clean up" software removing accepted certificates?
In addition, as mentioned in the "installation instructions", you just need to switch on the option "Always trust content from this publisher ".

I have a problem after installing a java update last thursday (12.04.2012). If I now try to start aris express I allways get the information:"The application is not aviable for offline use. The application is to be set to online use. Would you like to continue? ".
If I confirm this message with a click on "OK" the application will be downloaded from the internet. Thit takes a lot of time.
Somebody familiar with this message?
Thanks,
Oliver
I have the same challenge since a couple of weeks (before, I was able to run Aris Express offline). Removal of the software, deleting all entries under "User" and fresh new download did not help the problem.
Now, the software is loaded by "JAVA web start" even twice, before the software is started. I have no clue, why this is happening all the time, but it is boring and I am desperate to see an answer as well.

Hi Roland,
could you check whether you updated your JRE? Since a few weeks, we see the same problem, and I think it has to do with a changed behavior for the Java environment.
Also, it only seem to happen for users who installed by the downloadlink, but not the setup. This is the case e.g. if you are running a unix/linux system. Can you confirm that?
Bye,
Frank
Hi Frank,
when I reported the problem I ran an older version of JRE on my laptop (I guess it was 6.16 or so). So I uninstalled JRE and reinstalled JRE 7.04. Now I couldn't start AE at all.
I uninstalled JRE 7.04 and installed JRE 6.32 (both under Windows 7, by the way) and was back to my old problem.Cleaning the cache and setting the cache size appropriately, did not help. I uninstalled AE and tried both options to reinstall AE; this time I had the problem that the installation stalled when I had to enter my credentials.
I then loaded AE with the setup on my desktop computer with identical JRE settings and it worked!
No clue, how to resolve this crazy behaviour on my laptop... Using a laptop it is even worse, when you have to go online every time you want to open AE...
kind regards,
Roland
Hi,
you do not need to be online to start Express. If you did not use the setup but the direct download, the update is only done if you are online. If not, Express starts directly without any delay. At least that is what we detected, and only, as I said, if you use the direct download. Don't know why the JRE behaves like that, this is introduced with a new version of the JRE.
Bye,
Frank
Hi,
surprise, surprise. I can confirm, what you wrote: if I am online, AE downloads the software again, but if I am offline, AE starts right away.
Weird!
Roland
I also had the problem that ARIS Express downloads the jar files on nearly every startup.
I figured out that the caching detection was changed in one of the newer versions of the JRE.
I am very sure that this workaround can help you:

Hello Daniel,
thanks to remind me to check the cache settings. I had changed the settings before according to the FAQs, but without success.
What made me curious though, is the difference in the location, where the cache is stored. Does it matter if it is stored under the "admin", or can I store the cache also under my user account ?
Roland
As long as Java can read/write the cache every location should be fine.
Did you edit your hosts file? The workaround was recently added to the FAQ.
http://www.ariscommunity.com/aris-express/installation-faq#cdn
This solved many problems on my system.
I am afraid, I did not realize there was an additional entry in the FAQs. I figured, which IP adress I should add, but do not understand how to "add the following entry to your hosts file.. ".
Can you please explain this step in more detail? I imagine that needs to be entered into the registry?
Your help is appreciated!
Roland
Hi Roland,
we just added this FAQ entry a few days back, so it's not your fault :-)
The host file is a real file located somewhere on your filesystem. The exact location depends on the operating system you use. But as you are talking about "registry", I assume you are using some kind of MS Windows.
On Win 7, the file is located at: c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. In order to edit it, you will need admin privileges. Make sure to create a backup first!
Hi!
Indeed, I am running W7.
I identified the hosts file as you had described, added the IP adress (as admin) I had pinged.
Unfortunately, no improvement: the program still requests a download, when started.
kind regards,
Roland
Did you start ARIS Express several times and it still always downloads?
The purpose of the workaround is to get a static IP for the file server.
So you can execute the command 'ping cdn-download.ariscommunity.com' 3 or 4 times and he should always return the same IP.
If you get different IPs you didn't modifiy the hosts files correctly.
But it's also possible that the workaround is just not working for you.
I assume that you are German.
Maybe my post can help you:
Hello,
i've two pc's one for the internet and one offline only local net in my office. How can i start aris Community. It is not allowd to use the internet at the workstation.
If you intend to use the same ARIS Community user account on both computers, you could try to copy the user profile from that PC where you have been properly registered ARIS Express to the one without Internet access. That would be the folder %UserProfile%\ARISExpress.
I can't guarantee that this will work, though.
Cheers
