How can we turn off this overview pane or whatever it is called, which is always visible in the lower right corner of the Diagram in ARIS Connect viewer?

It mostly just gets in the way, often there are objects or links underneath that the user cannot see or click, because this thing is in the way.  It forces the users to do a lot of extra scrolling and zooming to see what they need to see.

We have tried all of the visible buttons and switches, but can't find any way to turn it off.

Thanks in advance!

Dear John,

The ARIS portal can be in much greater detail configured than what you can do from the user interface. On the user interface you can create modification sets to change many things, but not the model preview window. But with each service release we are offering more features in modification sets.

However, the much broader range of options can only be configured via configuration sets on which every modification set is based on. Out of the box you find classic (folder-based hierachy) and default (process-based hierarchy).

Before starting to customize a configuration set I strongly recommend to participate in our ARIS training course ARIS Connect Portal Configuration (742-70E). There you learn in 4 days the full scope of customizing the ARIS portal. You will be provided with a reference document to manage all the 420 XML files of which each configration set consists of.

The model preview is part of a configuration set. It can be hidden by the swtich showOverviewRect in file instances\modelViewer\modelViewer_default.xml. However, when changing this file directly in classic or default, you are at risk of losing your changes by the next ARIS patch or ARIS update as the afore mentioned configurations sets are reset then.

With the above training course you learn how to manage configuration sets on your own by copying your configuration set from either of the both standard configuration sets: classic or default.

Alternatively, you could hire a consultant from our Professional Services to implement the configuration changes you want to see, or to guide you on how to customize ARIS.

Cheers
Runè

Thank you Runè ... to make sure I understand correctly: there is no switch that the users can use to turn this on and off, it can only be turned off by configuration as described above, correct?

Can we request this as an enhancement? (allow the users to turn on/off the "model preview")

thank you Runè, just to close the loop: we did vote for this enhancement

I hope it can be done soon; this seems like such a simple and obvious thing (to be able to turn that overview on and off at the user level, so it can be used when helpful or hidden when it is an obstacle)
